Toast Ale wins Global Sustainable Development Goal Award

We’re thrilled to announce that we’ve picked up a major award for our contribution to sustainable development. Toast has been crowned 2018 Global SDG Award Winner for Sustainable Development Goal #12 (Responsible Consumption and Production).

The Global SDG Awards is an international sustainability initiative designed to increase private sector engagement with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The awards celebrate pioneers in corporate responsibility and sustainability internationally.

The 17 Sustainable Development Goals, adopted by 193 countries in September 2015, provide a universal framework for a more prosperous, inclusive and peaceful world by 2030. Goal 12 focuses on separating economic growth from irresponsible resource use, one of the biggest challenges of the 21st Century.

Food production is the biggest impact we have on the planet, being responsible for 80% of deforestation, 70% of fresh water use and 30% of greenhouse gas emissions. Yet we waste one-third of all food produced. Bread is a staple that many of us enjoy every day, but also one of the most wasted food items with 900,000 tonnes of bread going uneaten each year in the UK alone. We’ve been tackling this head on by using it as a grain to brew delicious beers, whilst spreading our rev-ALE-ution across the world.

The awards were judged by a panel of 65 global leaders in sustainability and responsibility from across the private sector. Entries were accepted from any company or social enterprise internationally that include the SDGs in their annual sustainability report.

This win is hugely exciting as it recognises us as a global leader in responsible production and consumption and celebrates our impact since launching in 2016, brewing with over 1 million slices of bread.

We’re raising a Toast to that!
