Toast Ale X Wiper and True

In our latest collaboration, we’ve reunited with Bristol-based brewery Wiper and True. We brewed with the team back in 2016, producing an Amber Ale to coincide with Bristol Beer Week. It was a huge success, selling out super quickly. This batch is twice the size of the first, at 2850L, meaning more beer for thirsty Bristolians this time round.

Before getting their own premises in 2015, Wiper and True were home brewers, experimenting with different styles and ingredients. Whilst their techniques and equipment have developed over the years, they are still driven by the same spirit of creativity and innovation. The team are best-known for their milk stout – a traditional Bristolian style that contains lactose.

The collaboration recipe includes a whopping 200 kg of fresh surplus bread, sourced from Hobbs House Bakery in Bristol. “Bread Pudding” is a 6.9% Amber Ale, inspired by the much-loved British dessert and containing dried fruits, cinnamon and vanilla.

Proceeds from the collaboration will be donated to Bristol Jam Plan. Run by volunteers, this community project turns surplus donated produce into jams and other preserves. This adds value to, and increases the shelf life of, food that might otherwise have gone to waste. The jams are sent on to shelters or community groups who can use them.

This creative and community-focused way of combating food waste is typical of the solutions that we love to celebrate at Toast. That’s why we’re excited to raise a Toast to our latest collab on 13th of April at the Wiper and True taproom in Bristol. Sustainability-focused local charities and community groups have been invited, shining a light on the role of craft beer in driving the sustainability agenda. What better way to engage with environmental issues than over a beer?

Bristol has long been a hotbed for craft beer whilst also emerging as a leading light in terms of sustainability. In 2016, it was named as a European Green Capital – the first British city to be given this title. In particular, Bristol has been praised for its commitment to green transport and low carbon industry. This prominent craft beer scene and ever evolving sustainability agenda makes it a perfect location for our rev-ALE-ution.
