Toast x Mad Squirrel

Toast x Mad Squirrel

We’re continuing to experiment with new flavours and beer styles in our collaborations with breweries. Our latest, with new forward-thinking brewers at Mad Squirrel, is our very first Red Ale.

Aran is a Soda Bread Red Ale made with surplus bread from sandwich makers Adelie – the end slice of the loaves that they don’t use for sandwiches. Aran is a full-bodied soft and creamy beer that is naturally hazy. Although the beer is low on the bitterness scale, its sweetness is understated making its taste refreshing and bold.

Mad Squirrel Brewing was launched in 2010 and pride themselves on making excellent beers, including collaboration and limited edition beers that have a focus on uniqueness. Modern and vibrant craft beer is at the heart of what they do, and sometimes their flavours can be a little, well … mad! They wanted to work with us to help reduce food waste and learn more about brewing with bread as part of the grain bill and we figured we’d be mad not to.

Mad Squirrel beers are available across the South East, but their brewery is based in Hertfordshire so we launched Aran as part of a tap takeover in their tap and bottle shop in Hemel Hempstead. It will also be at the CAMRA St Albans Beer Festival on the 29th September and you can buy cans online here. The beer is vegan, so can be enjoyed everyone lucky enough to get their hands on one.

5% of all sales will go to Dacorum Food Bank, a charity that provides three days’ nutritionally balanced food to those who need it most in the Hertfordshire. So you can do good, while enjoying a delicious beer. Cheers!
