Toast media coverage

It has been an amazing week at Toast Ale HQ, from our launch on national TV to media coverage that has spread all the way to the US and Australia!

We launched on Friday 22nd January, with Tristram appearing on Channel 4’s Friday Night Feast. Jamie Oliver and Jimmy Doherty have been fighting food waste for years and were keen to discover new solutions to the UK’s most wasted household food product – bread. Tristram met them to explain the scale of the problem – households bin half a million tons of bakery waste every year, equivalent to 40,000 double decker buses, at a cost of £860 million; retailers say 1/3 of their total food waste comes from bakery. It’s a colossal amount of waste

The boys then took a journey to see how we are turning this bread into beer.  It began when Tristram visited the Brussels Beer Project and was inspired to create a UK version.  It was realised at Hackney Brewery by master brewers who are using British malt, British hops and of course, the British bread that we are rescuing from bakeries, delis and sandwich makers, to make great tasting beer. And the verdict – Jamie said “it’s bloomin’ good”

Since then we’ve had some amazing press.  We’ve appeared in The Guardian, The Telegraph, The Independent, The Mail’s This Is Money, Vice (and Vice’s Munchies) Wallpaper, Food and Wine, The London Economic, East London Lines, Yahoo News, News United, The Irish Examiner, The Belfast Telegraph, Youth Health Magazine, Home Mage By You, Breaking News and trade journals The Drinks Business, FoodBev and British Baker. We’ve also broken into the US with NBC News and reached down under with Sky News. Wow!

*** Update! The press coverage continues.

We were highlighted in the Daily Telegraph Bitegeist column, Metro HotList and Time Out.

CBS This Morning Saturday included a feature on Toast ale. It includes a great video report on the brewing process and our mission to start a craft beer revolution and food waste revolution by proving that the solution to waste is delicious.

We were featured on BBC’s The One Show on 18 May 2016. It was great to watch people trying Toast ale for the first time, including David Walliams and the Hairy Bikers! Watch the clip here.

We’re really grateful for such breadth of media exposure, allowing us to raise awareness of what Jamie Oliver called a “truly exciting and radical solution” to food waste.
